My name is Ilia Dickey, I am a parent of two wonderful boys, a wife and daughter. Before joining a worldwide movement by becoming a Mindfulness Teacher through Berkley’s Greater Good Science Foundation and The Awareness Institute, I was a lawyer, political and community advocate. I built my career on a unique ability to raise awareness, forge authentic relationships, and identify mutually beneficial connections. After spending 8 years navigating the complicated web of information and resources to support our children through learning differences as well as social and emotional challenges, I was inspired to launch Centerpeace, a public benefit corporation specializing in personal and professional mindful leadership development.
We came across Brain Bridge in 2014. Brittany and Jamie’s approach was different from numerous other educational resources we explored. After spending thousands of dollars aimlessly searching for guidance, hours scouring the internet (not to mention battling the stigma associated with learning differences), we were ecstatic and relieved to encounter their compassionate and professional approach. Not only did our son adore Brittany and Jamie, they offered individualized, easy to understand, convenient to implement strategies with a realistic path to progress. After working with Brain Bridge, our son not only has a better grasp of how he learns, his academic and social confidence improved. He is more resilient as he has become an effective self-advocate and curious catalyst to his ongoing personal development. The icing on the cake was the education that we family gained on how best to support one another in this life-long process of learning.
I have long been engaged in our community serving various nonprofit and philanthropic organizations. I currently serve on the DaVinci Schools Education Fund Board of Directors (DVSFB), the Manhattan Beach Unified School District GATE Parent Advisory Committee (GPAC) as well as their Special Education Advisory Council (SEAC). I’m thrilled to be a member of AMIGOS, a philanthropic organization that engages mothers and their sons in community service. In addition to being a member of the International Mindfulness Teacher’s Association, and a collaborator on the Social Emotional Learning 4 California (SEL4CA), and the Collaborative for Academic, Social, and Emotional Learning (CASEL), my husband and I have been members of the Young President’s Organization for over 15 years.
