Brittany Johnson

I’m Brittany Johnson, I hold a Bachelor of Science from Oklahoma Christian University in Psychology. I co-founded Brain Bridge 6 years ago after realizing that a personalized and hands-on approach was necessary to support youth with learning differences. Prior to that, in 2010 I served as the Training Supervisor for The Learning Gym, a testing and training center established in 1997 dedicated to working with youth to enhance academic and work performance, attention, focus and processing speeds using mostly computer programs. I parted ways with my career in fashion when I tuned into my natural inclination and passion for working with children and families to make a real difference in my community.

I have been told that I have a unique ability to connect with people and make them feel comfortable, so I became a Certified Educator in what I consider two of the most effective multi-sensory reading and processing curriculums available today, Processing and Cognitive Enhancement (PACE) and Master the Code (MTC). The results that I see in in my students motivates, and also helped me to recognize the need for a more well-rounded and sustainable approach for my students and their families so I also became a Certified Social and Emotional Intelligence Trainer specializing in social skills, self-awareness, emotional self-control and conflict management. I have worked with hundreds of students and families. I am a second-generation South Bay native. I attended our wonderful local public schools, and continue to stay active in our local community and connected to fellow-educators and business leaders. I love to serve as a local resource participating in panels or speaking engagements to increase understanding and awareness around individual learning processes and differences and am committed to challenging the stigma around these. As a parent myself, I have an even deeper desire and understanding of the importance of laying a strong foundation for learning that will cultivate work and academic confidence and well-being.

Jamie Katz

I’m Jamie Katz. I have a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Pitzer College, and a Masters in Marriage and Family Therapy (MMFT) from the University of Southern California (USC). I was motivated to work with individuals with learning differences, based on my childhood experience with similar challenges. I wanted to help individuals understand how they learned, because it was so helpful to my personal process and growth. I am deeply committed to reducing the stigma around academic challenges. I feel I am doing my job correctly when I hear that a client is able to approach school and home life with more ease and great confidence! In 2011, I joined The Learning Gym team in Manhattan Beach as a cognitive trainer. I worked effectively with young students and families implementing programs targeted at improving cognitive abilities such as problem-solving, reasoning, sensory motor, executive function and working memory. I felt a strong sense of purpose and connection working in partnership with dozens of individuals and families.

My work at The Learning Gym inspired me to get my Master’s in Marriage and Family Therapy where I did clinical fieldwork providing therapy to children with learning issues. During that time, I recognized that I have a unique ability to identify with, and inspire students to strengthen and grow the skills that ultimately improve their academic confidence and self-esteem. I was inspired to co-found BrainBridge when I recognized the need for a more personal and customized approach to some of these challenges. I am a senior cognitive trainer at Brain Bridge, where I provide learning assessments, personalized cognitive training plans and conduct brain training. Since our doors opened, we have served over 400 individuals in our community.

I am an Advanced Trainer in the Structure of Intellect (SOI) – a theory that provides learning abilities assessments and training programs aimed at comprehending an individual’s learning style, learning abilities, and how they relate to school, careers and life. I am also a certified trainer in the SOI Integrated Practice Protocol (IPP) Program which targets sensory integration, body awareness, focusing skills as well as visual and auditory processing.

Ilia Dickey

My name is Ilia Dickey, I am a parent of two wonderful boys, a wife and daughter. Before joining a worldwide movement by becoming a Mindfulness Teacher through Berkley’s Greater Good Science Foundation and The Awareness Institute, I was a lawyer, political and community advocate. I built my career on a unique ability to raise awareness, forge authentic relationships, and identify mutually beneficial connections. After spending 8 years navigating the complicated web of information and resources to support our children through learning differences as well as social and emotional challenges, I was inspired to launch Centerpeace, a public benefit corporation specializing in personal and professional mindful leadership development.

We came across Brain Bridge in 2014. Brittany and Jamie’s approach was different from numerous other educational resources we explored. After spending thousands of dollars aimlessly searching for guidance, hours scouring the internet (not to mention battling the stigma associated with learning differences), we were ecstatic and relieved to encounter their compassionate and professional approach. Not only did our son adore Brittany and Jamie, they offered individualized, easy to understand, convenient to implement strategies with a realistic path to progress. After working with Brain Bridge, our son not only has a better grasp of how he learns, his academic and social confidence improved. He is more resilient as he has become an effective self-advocate and curious catalyst to his ongoing personal development. The icing on the cake was the education that we family gained on how best to support one another in this life-long process of learning.

I have long been engaged in our community serving various nonprofit and philanthropic organizations.  I currently serve on the DaVinci Schools Education Fund Board of Directors (DVSFB), the Manhattan Beach Unified School District GATE Parent Advisory Committee (GPAC) as well as their Special Education Advisory Council (SEAC).  I’m thrilled to be a member of AMIGOS, a philanthropic organization that engages mothers and their sons in community service.   In addition to being a member of the International Mindfulness Teacher’s Association, and a collaborator on the Social Emotional Learning 4  California (SEL4CA), and the  Collaborative for Academic, Social, and Emotional Learning (CASEL), my husband and I have been members of the Young President’s Organization for over 15 years.
